December 9, 2015 Dear Fellow Club Owners: I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving break and was able to enjoy some quality time with friends and family. I wanted to send out a quick wrap up of our 2015 swim season before we embark on the 2016 swim season in short order. Our membership continues to remain strong and at capacity (per our approved Bylaws) with 175 owners along with a healthy and vibrant swim team. Attached is a 2015 financial summary and notes on of the 2015 season. Suffice to say we remain financially strong- even after a generous raise for our lifeguards to remain competitive with the other swim clubs in the area. Also, I would like to thank Joel Eisenberg for attending the Annual Swim Club meeting! An ongoing concern is the overall respect for the facility and parental responsibilities over the behaviors of our young ones. Unfortunately, there were multiple examples (that I was made aware of) of either destructive or unsafe behaviors exhibited by kids inside the pool facility that were not managed by their parent or the person responsible for bringing them to the pool. Yes, we have lifeguards to manage the kids swimming in the pool or on the pool deck but they are not there for general ‘babysitting’. For those needing refresher on the pool rules please see that attached. The pool rules were updated at the beginning of the year for additional clarity and removal of references to ‘Gate Duty’ which was eliminated this year. We extended the pool closing date to end of October with the intent of providing lifeguards during the weekends past Labor Day weekend. Unfortunately, we had difficulty finding suitable lifeguards to fill these additional hours as most of our lifeguards are school aged young adults that did not have the time or were no longer in the area once school started. While we generally enjoyed the extended close date, we will look to do this next year albeit without lifeguard coverage past the Labor Day weekend. With the continued turnover in membership, there has been confusion regarding work responsibilities between the Swim Team and Swim Club. For those families that have kids on the Swim Team, there are additional work responsibilities as being part of the team (I am sure you are quite familiar with those!) in addition to the Swim Club work responsibilities. With the elimination of Gate Duty this year, the main work responsibility for the Swim Club is participating in either an opening work day or yearend closing work day. Families are rotated alphabetically, with a total of roughly 60 families needing to participate in a given year. This means many families will not need to perform these work duties on some years. The Swim Club board is in need of filling key volunteer roles on the board, as such we have begun discussion on providing some form of indirect compensation to certain positions. This will most likely be in the form of a reduced annual maintenance fee. This will be similar to what is provided to those serving on the Swim Team board by receiving a swim team fee discount for one child. We are always looking for the help as some of us are well past the general two-year stint granted in the Bylaws. Please feel to reach out to any current board member for additional information on ways to be involved. Again, thank you for reading this far and being part of a great swim club in a terrific community. I believe this ‘half acre’ of ours is a great asset for our area and a strong attraction for families to build wonderful friendships and memories in a safe and relaxing environment. Without the help of our current board members — Stuart Lieblich, Nicolle Cannon, Marlene Lee, Matthew Martinucci and Catherine Brooding — the swim club would be a much different place. All the best, Michael Brooding Swim Club President
